The award-winning Flyde Table

Originally inspired by the need for a new family table, craftsman Mike Laustsen drew on his Danish heritage and years of design and furniture making expertise to craft a deceptively simple and elegant piece of furniture. The Flyde Table is named for the Danish word for float, and is inspired by the negative detailing that creates a floating look to the end view.

The Flyde Table won First Place in the 2019 Interior Awards for Craftsmanship and a Silver Award in the Designers Institute Best Awards 2019 competition.

This custom table is where heritage meets craftsmanship

This piece is proudly handcrafted in New Zealand from raw European Oak. Mike selected this timber for its superior, low drying process and its very straight and subtle grain, which gives the table strength while allowing its stylish, timeless design to shine. The exposed mortise and tenon joints add a contemporary design feature, with a balanced triple detail in Wenge, a dark brown African hardwood with close, blackish veining.

The natural texture of the timber is finished in an eco-friendly, water based invisible oil giving a ‘naked’ look to the table.

The Flyde Table pairs seamlessly with the Flyde Sideboard, which showcases the same simple, elegant design language for a cohesive and timeless ensemble.

Materials: European Oak and Wenge

Finishes: Different oils are available to provide the best level of protection according to the owner’s lifestyle requirements.

Care: After use, wipe the table with a diluted Danish soap to maintain its protective layer. Mike is available to repair any minor marks which may occur.

Each piece of furniture takes up to two weeks to be meticulously handcrafted. Waitlist times can vary but expect to receive delivery of your piece of Mike Laustsen Furniture in approximately three months.
